Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza toured the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Energy Complex on the sidelines of his participation in Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2018.
The complex will have a capacity of 13 megawatts in its first phase and 800 MW in the second phase, with electricity being made available at an estimated cost of 2.99 cents per kilowatt hour (11 fils per kilowatt hour).
The minister was received upon his arrival by Chief Executive Officer of the Electricity Authority Saeed bin Mohammed Al Tayer, who gave a presentation on the strategy of Dubai Integrated Energy 2030, as well as the long-term strategy for 2050, which is based on diversification of energy sources and includes the green energy strategy.
The success of these plans is evidenced by measuring the indicators achieved by the Electricity and Water Authority in the electricity and water sector, the most important of which is few power outages, in addition to the low percentage of losses in the water network and the percentage of losses in the network of transmission and distribution of electricity, in the process achieving sustainability of resources and energy conservation.
During this visit, Dr. Mirza briefed his hosts on Bahrain's plans in the field of sustainable energy and national goals and the achievements of the Electricity and Water Authority and the Sustainable Energy Unit. He also praised the experience of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority in the field of solar energy and his desire to exchange ideas and benefit from the experiences of others.
The minister thanked the executive chairman of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the officials of the reception and welcome. He stressed the deep ties between the two countries and the importance of mutual cooperation of ideas and projects in the field of solar energy. The minister expressed his readiness to share Bahrain's ideas and experiences in this field and assured of his endeavour to further strengthen these strong relations between the two brotherly countries and the importance of the projects.
Mohammed Bushehri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Water of Kuwait and Mohammed Abunian, Chairman of Aqua Power and a number of senior officials in this project were present.
