Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza met Jordanian Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Dr. Saleh Ali on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability 2018.
The two sides discussed bilateral cooperation related to the use of solar energy, in which Jordan has made a great progress in the past years. The minister said Bahrain could take advantage of the Jordanian experience in the legislative aspects used to promote investment in solar energy as well as in installation of solar systems on the roofs of government buildings.
Dr. Mirza reviewed the steps being taken by Bahrain to tender for the construction of a 100-megawatt solar power plant. He said the Sustainable Energy Unit would launch the competitive tender for the installation of solar energy systems on government buildings such as schools and hospitals.
The Jordanian minister said that there are a number of areas supported by his government for initiatives to sustain energy, including incentives for solar installations. These include exemption from customs duties as well as supporting projects and installations of solar energy by the central bank.
The two sides agreed to continue direct technical cooperation between the Sustainable Energy Unit and its counterparts in Jordan to identify the best methods and structure the legislation that supports investment opportunities in solar energy.
Dr. Mirza thanked the Jordanian Minister and those responsible for the fruitful meeting.
