Minister receives UNDP official

Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Amin al-Sharqawi and thanked Bahrain's leadership for their interest in supporting and encouraging the use of clean energy for sustainable development.

He applauded the decision by the Council of Ministers on the policy of regulating linking of electricity production units from renewable energy to the power distribution system of the Electricity and Water Authority, also called Net Metering, beginning this year.
Mr. Al-Sharqawi congratulated the minister on the issuing of the ministerial draft resolution regulating the linking of electricity production units to renewable energy. He said this would help accelerate the introduction of renewable energy technology in the country and activate the role of the private sector to supply and install solar energy in homes, factories and hotels.

He said the decision also supports the diversification of energy sources in line with sustainable development goals 2030.
"The United Nations is always ready to support the work of the Sustainable Energy Unit and support Bahrain to achieve the goals of sustainable development 2030," he said.

“This decision will help Bahrain attract new international investments, creating employment opportunities for Bahraini youth."
